| The
Highland Education Development Organization
(HEDO), a Non-Governmental Organization
was established in 1990 in Vietnam. HEDO
is a member of ASEAN’s International Federation
of Non-Government Organization’ Drug Abuse
Prevention Group. HEDO is recognized by
the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime as a NGO in drug abuse prevention
in Vietnam.
Its
primary work is in developing education,
health and science in the isolated communities
in the remote mountainous provinces. It
also focuses on charity fundraising to
implement child care, hunger eradication
poverty reduction and prevention of drug
abuse and HIV especially among the poorest
ethnic minorities.
HEDO
has carried out a number of projects and
programs for the remote and mountainous
provinces such as:

in the reduction of mother to child
transmission of HIV infection. |

Drug prevention in schools |

Drug and HIV prevention in teenagers. |

Prevention of HIV through unsafe drug
injection and sexual behaviour. |

Opium eradication, replacement and
demand reduction. |

Assistance with detoxification and
drug rehabilitation for drug addicts. |

Implementing a family planning program
in Tuyen Quang province (Sponsored
by Department of Department of NGOs
of the European Community). |
